Rustic Reverie 2 is a quintessential view of the back of the iconic American barn. In this work, minimalism prevails while texture provides the focal point. The grain of weathered wood is rendered through meticulous line work and the careful application of light and shading in bleached white and dove grey. Scale is achieved by the addition of a small geometric outbuilding with walls in mocha brown and a roof in pewter grey. The eye draws itself to three central points – a small white door and the negative space created by two barn windows in the upper half of the picture plane. A muted-blue background and hunter-green foreground add depth while giving a sense of three-dimensionality.
